In 1946,
the next year of the recovery of Taiwan. all countries and
towns in our county belong to the Teichung County. For the
practice of local self government , transitional people's
repersentative body, the Taichung County Council
established. There were sixty district councilors and six
councilors of different occupations.
April
in 1950, the Taiwan Provincial Government promulgated the
”uOrganizational Rules Of City/County Councils”vand practiced
local self govemment Our county departed from the Taichung
County in October 1950 and became the Nantou County. Since
first term of the Nantou County Council established in
February 8,1951, it has been 51 years. And we have elected
fifteen terms of councilors.
According to the directions of the Executive Yuan, the
Provincial Government divided the province into six periods,
and our county belonged to the fifth period. The members of
the first term councilors were thirty, and the tenure of
office was two years; the members of the second term
councilors were thirty-two, and the tenure of office was two
years: the members of the third term councilors were thirty
four, and the tenure of office was three years; the members
of the fourth term councilors were thirty-seven, and the
tenure of office was three years; the memjbers of the fifth
term councilors wer thirty-six, and the tenure of office was
thre years; the members of the sixth term councilors were
thirty-eight, and the tenure of office was four years; the
members of the eighth term ouncilors were thirty-seven, and
the tenure of office was four years. From then on, the
members and the tenure of office have never changed.
The
original address of the Nantou County Council was in the
downtown area. In 1975, the speaker Chen Wang-Hsiung decided
to rebuild the council, and the speaker Chang Chan-Chuan
moved and built the council in December, 1980.
The building has been old, and the equipment is not suitadle
for the electrical age. By the damage of the 921 Earthquake,
the building is not complete now. For saving money, the
building is repaired and still in operation.
The
fifteenth term council established in March 1,2002, and the
councilors elected Cheng Wen-Tunjg the speaker and Wu Chi-Hsiang
the deputy speaker. |
